LEGOLAND is preparing for launch into an all-new LEGO galaxy as Galacticoaster, a groundbreaking indoor roller coaster, opens in 2026 at both LEGOLAND Florida Resort and LEGOLAND California Resort. As part of a huge $90 million investment by Merlin Entertainments, this ambitious project marks the biggest single in-park expansion in the history of both resorts and introduces an immersive space-themed experience designed especially for families.

The new attraction forms the centrepiece of LEGO Galaxy, a brand-new land debuting at LEGOLAND California on March 6, 2026, with a parallel space experience launching at LEGOLAND Florida later in the year. Blending cutting-edge ride technology, creative storytelling and hands-on LEGO play, Galacticoaster promises to be one of the most exciting family rides LEGOLAND has ever built.

What Is Galacticoaster?

Galacticoaster is a next-generation indoor family roller coaster that allows guests to design their own LEGO spacecraft before boarding. Using digital Customisation Bays, riders select elements such as the nose, tail, wings and a special feature (from disco balls to balloons), creating more than 625 unique spacecraft combinations.

Each rider’s custom ship is linked via RFID technology, meaning guests actually see themselves riding in the spacecraft they designed once the adventure begins. According to LEGOLAND, you would need to ride Galacticoaster every day for nearly two years to experience every possible ship combination.

After an immersive queue experience and interactive pre-shows, families launch into a fast-paced cosmic journey featuring LEGO Space sets from the past, present and future, complete with onboard sound, lighting effects and cinematic storytelling. The coaster reaches speeds of up to 40 mph, delivering thrills that remain accessible for younger riders.

LEGOLAND California: LEGO Galaxy Opens March 2026

At LEGOLAND California Resort in Carlsbad, Galacticoaster anchors the all-new LEGO Galaxy land – the park’s first new roller coaster in more than 20 years.

Housed inside a 30,000-square-foot building standing over 30 feet tall, the coaster features nearly 1,500 feet of track and has been constructed by a global crew of more than 500 builders. The ride launches from Spaceport 886, a nod to the classic 1970s LEGO Space Buggy set that helped define LEGO’s original space theme.

Beyond Galacticoaster, LEGO Galaxy will also include:

  • G-Force Test Facility – a family thrill ride that swings, tilts and spins, simulating astronaut training forces
  • DUPLO® Launch and Land – a gentle flight-training ride for toddlers and younger children
  • Junior Astronaut Training Zone – a dedicated toddler play area for imaginative space adventures
  • Rocket Assembly Bay – a high-tech LEGO building zone where rockets can be digitally scanned and launched into cyberspace
  • Galactic dining and retail – including U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet), Stardust Sips & Sweets, Satellite Bites and the Orbital Outpost gift shop with exclusive LEGO Galaxy merchandise

Even the landscaping tells a story, with original LEGOLAND California “Dragon Trees” carefully preserved and replanted into the new land.

LEGOLAND Florida: A New Era of Space Adventures

At LEGOLAND Florida Resort in Winter Haven, Galacticoaster will be the first indoor roller coaster to open inside the main theme park since the resort debuted in 2011.

The Florida version launches guests from Spaceport 885, named after the classic LEGO Space Scooter set, and features a fully covered, story-driven queue that keeps families entertained rain or shine. The experience has been designed as LEGOLAND Florida’s most ambitious attraction to date, delivering a complete mission from pre-launch briefing through to landing.

The Florida space area will also feature:

  • Orbital Outpost – a themed retail store packed with space-inspired LEGO sets and souvenirs
  • DUPLO® Tot Spot – a shaded soft-play area for tiny astronauts aged 1–4, with seating for parents nearby

Construction began two years ago and is located in the northernmost area of LEGO City, with more details to be revealed closer to opening.

Built for Families, Powered by Innovation

Galacticoaster has been designed specifically for families with children aged 2 to 12, combining thrilling coaster elements with interactive play and personalised storytelling. Mission statistics from the build highlight the scale of the project:

  • Track length: 450 metres (nearly 1,500 feet)
  • Max height: 10 metres (30+ feet)
  • 48 track sections and 120 columns
  • 12+ months of construction and over 400 concrete trucks used

According to Merlin Magic Making, this attraction represents the future of LEGOLAND rides – where creativity, technology and family thrills come together in one immersive experience.
